SEO Link Building Techniques : Part I

This concludes week seven.  My internship is more than half over, and there is still so much to learn.  With one more month left, there are parts of working at the office that I already miss.  The cafeteria, for one, is pretty incredible.  Home made meat, chicken and fish with all kinds of yummy, organic vegetable dishes (sometimes they use vegetables from their organic garden out back).  Also made-to-order sandwiches, burgers, salad bar, and the menu changes daily.

During the time surrounding lunch, the three elements that have been drilled into me since I started learning SEO have been:

  1. Keywords
  2. Copy
  3. Links

Link building can be exhausting.  Many SEOs might choose to outsource their link building, and others might choose to get an intern to do it for them. *ahem*  Link building can be time consuming, but it is a necessary evil for good, lasting SEO.  I have found countless linking opportunities through some of the tasks I have completed so far, but I was at somewhat of a loss as to what to do with the lists.

It’s week four of my internship, and I’m starting to learn a whole lot of Search Engine Optimization strategies, tactics and techniques fairly quickly.  I thought it would be a good idea to attempt to apply the things I am learning while I am interning. Please allow me to introduce Meaghan Gosling and her Web site www.artofbehavior.com.

This is the end of my second week of my internship.  Things have been relatively low-key in the SEO corner.  Everett, the guy who is mentoring my internship, just got back into the office this morning and is a bit busy playing catch-up.  I have been reading a bunch of SEO resources online, and learning a lot of cool stuff.  One of the best resources I’ve found so far is Search Engine Watch.  They have a bunch of really useful information and it is updated with new content very frequently.

I am interning at a green living, yoga, fitness, & organic product company. It’s my second week, and the SEO Stratigest I am working under has gone out of town and left me to my own devices. I was given a project to help out the Director of DRTV eCommerce, however he and his wife had a new baby girl on Sunday, and so he is out as well.

This information will not be useful to you unless you know absolute zero about SEO. I know absolute zero, so I created this blog in tandem with my new SEO internship. In the future, there may be some information that will be helpful to an aspiring SEO, however it will stay relatively remedial, and include some of the processes that I am picking up.
